Freedom never comes without its twin brother responsibility. They both travel together always and, if and when they separate, impending disaster is a very real threat. To quote Texas Democrat, Lt. Governor Bob Bullock
"The personal responsibility of good government does not end at the ballot box, but lives in the heart and soul of all of us who want Texas to be the best it can be." -
Lt. Governor Bob Bullock
In fact, the responsibility of the law makers is much more than the common man, since they need to fulfill the promises they made to the electorate. It is their own personal beliefs and ethics, which will either make them a success or set them up for failure.
Our freedom depends on open, accountable and ethical government. Texas Democrats believe existing state laws must be enforced and strengthened and new laws must be enacted to protect our democracy and restore the public trust. They have laid down the following code of conduct that is followed by all Texas Democrats:
1. Complete disclosure of campaign incomes and expenses, contributions, gifts to public officials, lobbying and other activities than can influence elections and government operations.
2. Ban on corporate campaign contributions and anonymous donors sixty days prior to elections.
3. Prevent back-door lobbying by former legislators and state agency executives.
4. Make adequate provisions amendments to enable Texas Legislature to record all votes, comply with open meeting laws and provide real-time internet access to voting records.
5. Recommend strict contracting guidelines to state agencies to eliminate favoritism in awarding state contracts and documenting any meetings with registered lobbyists or paid consultants.
6. Prevent misuse of state tax money to pay lobbyists or to lobby members of the Texas state or congressional delegation.
If these guidelines are followed by all, including Texas Democrats, Texans have nothing to worry about.
I love politics. My Texan Democrat Blog. I want to get out there and support the democratic party.
